Aria Couture will soon begin offering patterns inspired by beautiful gowns from films, and eventually my own designs.
The first will be available this winter both as a print pattern and later as an e-pattern, for which you will print the .pdf pieces and tape them together, for a lower cost. Sizes 6 - 22 will be included. All sizes will be scaled by hand. Computerized scaling results in linebacker shoulders for plus sizes and petite height for smaller sizes.
The first pattern will be a Titanic-inspired 1912 Flying Gown. The gown in the film was reproduced from a black gown owned by the wife of the mayor of Pennsylvania, and in 1999, Simplcity put out a "Retro" pattern, which has long been out of print. When found, this pattern can easily cost $60 or more, and only three sizes are available in each envelope.
My pattern will be quite different from the Simplicity pattern. For one, an elastic waist will merely be an option with the primary waist band being an actual waist band. For another, the bodice may either be an inset, as part of the tunic, or a seperate bodice altogether, which would make a wonderful summer top with jeans.
Furthermore, instructions will be included to make a shawl, as well as a pattern to make a sewn purse, and a bonus embroidery guide for the lapels and skirt panel. This embroidery guide can be used to either hand-embroider or to use your embroidery machine's digitizing software to make your own file for easy machine embroidery.
